WHO?

Community Health Works has been meeting quarterly to discuss the region and county's most pressing health issues as they relate to healthy lifestyle choices, community infrastructure, and local policies. This county-specific work is part of a region-wide, multi-year initiative: the Central Georgia Regional Health Summit (see main page for more details). Community participants in Bibb County "action planning meetings", which are free and open to the public, include a growing group of concerned community members and local leaders who represent a variety of industries and areas of expertise: healthcare, the K-12 public school system, grassroots advocacy groups, community gardening initiatives and farmers' markets, the business community and Chamber of Commerce, City and County officials, universities and colleges, and more. For a more detailed list of participants and community partners, view Local Partners and Resources (found on the menu to the right) on this page.

HOW?

Through action planning meetings held quarterly in Bibb County, staff from Community Health Works has been working with local residents to ensure that, over time, we see that the following steps are accomplished:

  1. Increasing community awareness of chronic disease and the community resources/healthy choices by which many diseases can be prevented (read more about chronic disease via the CDC and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion)
  2. Addressing employee and student health through School Wellness Policies and curriculum (Read more on School Wellness Policies via the USDA)
  3. Creating a healthy workforce through the development of workplace (or work site) wellness activities (Read more on Worksite Wellness via the CDC)
  4. Establishing new and innovative programs, policies, and improvements to the built-environment to make it easier for local residents to make healthier choices.
