October 22, 2008: Community Health Works (CHW) and the Central Georgia Cancer Coalition (CGCC) are proud to have partnered with Houston Healthcare, Robins Air Force Base Health & Wellness Center,
The American Cancer Society, and Susan G. Komen For The Cure to present the 13th annual Breast Cancer “Pink Picnic” Luncheon on October 22, 2008. Over 550 Central Georgians attended this year’s event to learn more about new trends in breast cancer diagnoses, treatment and resources.
With a panel of speakers that included Oncologist Dr. Al-Hajj, Radiologist Dr. Shaikh and Sr. Vice President of American Cancer Society Georgette Porter, attendees gained an increased awareness and knowledge of breast health and breast cancer. Dr.
Shaikh addressed the value of newer digital mammography versus film based mammography. Ms. Porter shared the American Cancer Society’s goal of reducing breast cancer mortality by 50% and reducing the overall incidents of breast cancer by 25% within the next 7 years.
Mattie Lovett represented CHW and CGCC with a health and nutrition booth at the event. Mindy Temple and Monica Martin assisted with the setup for the event.
