Convening for our Communities

Community Health Works invites residents, community leaders and representatives from healthcare, education, government, agriculture and nutrition to come together from Central Georgia’s seven-county region and convene for the annual health summit – a free, multi-faceted event on the pursuit of health and wellness in the school, workplace and community where call to actions are created to put health at the top of the community agenda.

The 3rd Annual Central Georgia Regional Health Summit was held November 1, 2011 at the Macon Marriott City Center in downtown Macon, Georgia. This year’s theme was “Wellness Within Reach” with a focus on fresh food access, urban farming, the built environment, policy transformations and more. The Summit – free to all participants – included special guests, breakout sessions, a health expo, luncheon and opportunities to bring grassroots change to communities throughout Central Georgia.

Sponsorship opportunities

Benefits for this year’s sponsors include major recognition throughout the summit and exposure to a Central Georgia’s contingency working to make positive change in community health and wellness. Sponsors will be recognized throughout the year at quarterly summit follow-up meetings held in Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach and Twiggs counties.

Putting Health Summit Plans into Action, Year-Round

Working closely with each of Central Georgia’s seven counties, Community Health Works organizes quarterly action planning meetings aimed at combating chronic diseases, unhealthy behaviors and barriers to healthy decision-making. These meetings, which include representatives from hospitals and public health agencies, city and government, business leaders, educators, parks and recreation departments, arts and culture agencies, county extension agents and various other grassroots coalitions and nonprofit agencies, devise county specific plans to improve the health of their community and work together to carry out the plan by identifying additional partnerships, leveraging local resources and maintaining community engagement.

Through these regular public forums (also known as action planning meetings), staff from Community Health Works facilitate the local meetings and assist with the administration of the individual county plans. Among the plans in action throughout Central Georgia’s seven-county region – the development of walking trails and bike paths, community gardens, smoke-free workplace policies and wellness campaigns targeted to community areas of school, work, worship and recreation.
